ASIATIQUE THE RIVERFRONT BANGKOK

Asiatique Bangkok markets

Asiatique is a large shopping market place located on the Chao Praya River in Bangkok.

There are thousands of stalls inside 9 huge warehouses which used to be used sawmills and then during World War II the Japanese used the warehouses for an arms depot.

After extensive renovations, Asiatique is now one of the most popular markets and shopping districts. Inside the huge warehouses are small alley ways lined with stalls selling everthing you would expect in a market in Bangkok. From clothes, jewellery, art and crafts and novelty items.

At the front of the markets, where you get off at the ferry, is a long boardwalk which runs along the river front. At night time this is all light up.

There is also a large amusement park with rides for children and a huge ferris wheel which has excellent views over the Chao Phraya River and over to the Bangkok skyline.

Asiatique is open 7 days a week from 5pm until midnight.

There are also more than 20 restaurants and bars at Asiatique so an excellent location to come do some shopping and then sit back for a nice relaxing dinner and drinks. There are Italian restaurants, Japanese restaurants and a few good Thai restaurants serving up a range of fresh seafood. There is also a food court selling inexpensive Asia food like Thai and Vietnamese. There is also a KFC outlet at the back of the market area.

The easiest way to get to Asiatique is by BTS Skytrain to Saphan Taksin station. From the station it is just a 100 meter walk to a ferry pier on the river. From here there is a free shuttle ferry that takes about 15 minutes to get down to Asiatique. The shuttle boat leaves every 15 minutes from 4pm until 11.30pm to get you to Asiatique. The shuttle boats returning from Asiatique finish at midnight.

You can get a taxi to Asiatique but the traffic here is very busy so it will actually take you longer than getting the Skytrain and ferry connection.
