Chatuchak Markets Bangkok

Chatuchak Markets are open on the weekends, Saturday and Sunday, and are Bangkok's largest markets. Chatuchak is spelt many ways including Jatujak, Jatuchak. The locals refer to the markets as JJ Markets. Chatuchak markets covers an area of 27 acres and sells everything you can think of including clothing, jewelry, furniture, paintings, CDs, DVDs, sunglasses, pets and plants as well as a huge selection of cooked food. Some sections of Chatuchak markets are under cover and others are open air.

Chatuchak Markets has over 5000 permanent stalls and lots more temporary stalls that come at different times.

Right next to Chatuchak Markets is Chatuchak Park which is one of the largest public parks in Bangkok.

There is one large section of Chatuchak Markets which has a whole range of cooked foods including grill pork, freshly cooked seafood, crumbed fish, plenty of tasty Thai food and fresh sliced fruit and freshly squeezed juice. You find some of the best street food in Bangkok at Chatuchak Markets

There is no fresh produce section of Chatuchak markets as the fresh produce markets is located just a few minutes down the street from Chatuchak.

Right outside, near the live fish section of Chatuchak Markets you will find some cooked food which is very popular with the Thai people, especially the Thai that come from the rural areas of Thailand - cooked insects. You will find carts which is loaded up with fried cockroaches, crickets, bamboo worms and lots of other types of cooked insects.

Getting to Chatuchak Markets in Bangkok

Chatuchak Markets are located in the northern part of Bangkok. The easiest and cheapest way to get to Chatuchak markets is to get the BTS Skytrain to Mo Chit Station or you can get the MRT along the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line to the Kamphaengpecth Station. Both the BTS and MRT stations are around 600m from Chatuchak Markets or around 5 minutes walk.

A taxi will take around 30 - 45 minutes to get to Chatuchak Markets depending on traffic. The cost of the taxi ride will be around 100 Baht.
