There are a number of floating markets in Bangkok which are very popular with tourists. The most famous and original floating markets is Damnoen Saduak Floating Markets which are located around 1.5 hours outside of Bangkok by car. You arrive at a number of different piers then get on a long boat to be taken through the markets.
A boat will cost around 1200 Baht for 1 hour of going through the various canals that make up the market.
Some people will try to charge you 1200 per person but you can hire an entire boat which will fit up to 6 people for 1200 Baht.
There are plenty of good products and gifts to buy at the floating markets. Your boat driver will maneuver your boat up to the store selling or the floating boat for you to have a look and bargain for a good price.
Also there are plenty of food sellers in the boats selling fresh fruit and vegetables as well as freshly squeezed fruit juice and a range of cooked foods.
As the Floating Markets have become so popular for tourists to visit you sometimes get traffic jams in the small canals. There are too many boats and some sections of the floating market is difficult to get through. This now makes the floating market a little bit unpleasant though still a very interesting cultural experience. If you can get out of your boat at the markets then there are still some great photo opportunities.
