Koh Phi Phi is a set of 2 islands in the Andaman Sea just south of Phuket Thailand. The main island, Koh Phi Phi Don is the only island with accommodation. Koh Phi Phi Leh is around 20 minutes away from Koh Phi Phi Don by boat. Koh Phi Phi Don is a very relaxed island with no cars or motorbikes. People get around either on bicycles or walking. The main activities around Koh Phi Phi is scuba diving and snorkeling with crystal clear waters teaming with sea life.
Ton Sai Bay Koh Phi Phi
Ton Sai Bay is the main town on Koh Phi Phi. This is where the ferry drops you off onto the island. All people arriving onto Koh Phi Phi have to pay 20 Baht when you get off the ferry. This is an environmental tax which is used to keep the island clean. Ton Sai Bay is made up of one main walkway which runs along the bay which is lined with shops, cafes, restaurants and dive shops.
There are 24 hour convenience stores and internet cafes. There are some small alley ways that run off this main street. You can cross the island via these small alleys which takes you through to Loh Dalum Bay which is only a few hundred meters walk.
Loh Dalum Bay Koh Phi Phi
Loh Dalum Bay is a quiet bay with a beautiful long white sandy beach. At Loh Dalum Bay there are a heap of water sports activities including parasailing, kayaking and banana boat rides.
Monkey Beach Koh Phi Phi
Monkey Beach is located not far from Ton Sai Bay. You need to take a short boat ride and get off at Monkey Beach. It is named Monkey beach as there are often small Macaque monkeys sitting on the beach. The monkeys here are very placid and not aggressive. They will sit quietly while you come up close and take a photo.
Maya Bay and Maya Beach
Maya Bay is located at Koh Phi Phi Leh which is the smaller island a short boat ride from Koh Phi Phi Don. The secluded bay has a beautiful white sandy beach and is great for swimming and snorkeling. At any time during the day the beach is lined with boats which carry 10 or more tourists on day trips from Koh Phi Phi Don or from Phuket. There can be hundreds or close to 1,000 people at a time on beach. Maya Bay is where the 2000 movie The Beach was filmed.
Boat trips around Koh Phi Phi
There are a heap of companies that have boat trips around Koh Phi Phi stopping at the various bays and beaches. There are full day trips that leave at 8am and return at sunset. There are also half day boat trips that leave at 10am and return at 1pm or leave at 11.30am and return at 3pm. It is easy to organise a boat trip, either book in your hotel or at the numerous travel offices. The half days boat trips stop at Maya Bay and Maya Beach, Viking Cove, Pe-Ley Bay, Loh Samah Bay and Monkey Beach. The half day boat trips cost 400 Baht plus an extra 100 Baht when you arrive at Maya Beach. The full day boat trips stop at Monkey Beach, Viking Cove, Pe-Ley Bay, Loh Samah Bay, Maya Bay and Maya Beach, Hin-klang, Bamboo Island, Runtee Bay, Loh Moo Dee Beach and Shark Point.
Nightlife on Koh Phi Phi
The nightlife on Koh Phi Phi is nothing like what you find in Phuket. There are various chilled out bars in Ton Sai Bay with DJs or live music playing.
Getting to Koh Phi Phi
The only way to get to Koh Phi Phi is by ferry unless you can afford to get a helicopter. You can get a ferry from Phuket, Krabi or Koh Lanta. It is easy to book a ferry ticket in either your hotel or the many tourist travel shops on Koh Phi or in Phuket. A return trip from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi costs 1000 Baht which includes a mini-bus pickup from your hotel.

Foreign Exchange and ATMs on Koh Phi Phi
There is a Siam Commercial Bank in the main part of Ton Sai Bay close to the ferry port which does foreign exchange. The rate is very similar to what you will find in Phuket.
There are plenty of ATMs in Ton Sai Bay which accept VISA, Visa Electron, Mastercard, Cirrus and JCB cards.
Mobile Phone / Cellular Phone Reception on Koh Phi Phi
There is very limited mobile phone / cellular phone reception on Koh Phi Phi. You will get good phone reception down close to the ferry terminal through at most hotels away from this area has no phone reception.

There is plenty of free Wi-Fi internet access on Koh Phi Phi. Most hotels have free Wi-Fi which works in your rooms. Also many of the bars and restaurants have free Wi-Fi internet access. Some you will need to ask for the password to access their free Wi-Fi service.
Your Environmental Impact on Koh Phi Phi
Koh Phi Phi is only a small island and has no room for land fill for rubbish heaps so all rubbish needs to be shipped off the island back to Phuket. Do your bit and collect your own rubbish and take it back to Phuket with you. You have paid your ferry ticket and if you are going back to Phuket airport you have paid your airport tax so dump your rubbish there or at your next hotel. Every little bit helps.
Tsunami Evacuation Routes on Koh Phi Phi
Koh Phi Phi was devastated by the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. Now all through the coastal areas of Koh Phi Phi Don you will Tsunami Evacuation Route signs and Tsunami Hazard Zone signs.. These routes will take you to the higher points on the island away from any danger if there is a Tsunami warning. The hazard zones are generally any part of the island at sea level.
