Koh Samet is one of the most popular islands to visit in the Gulf of Thailand. Just 3.5 hours away from Bangkok makes it very accessible and draws alot of local Thai people from Bangkok to visit on the weekends.
Koh Samet has some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Thailand, with soft white sand and some nice swimming off the beach.
The most popular place to stay on Koh Samet is Hat Sai Kaew or Diamond Beach which is 780 meters long and lined with beach resorts and beach bars. It has the reputation of being the party beach on Koh Samet.
Sai Kaew Beach is within a National Park so when visiting here you need to pay the National Park entrance fee of 200 Baht per person. Even if you arrive on Sai Kaew Beach by private speed boat, a National Park officer which mysteriously appear to ensure to collect your 200 Baht fee.

There are some decent coral reefs around Koh Samet so is worth going scuba diving while staying on the island. There are a few dive shops on Koh Samet were you can organise dive trips and hire all your dive equipment. Check out Rayong Dive Centre.

The Best Restaurants on Koh Samet
Don’t expect any Fine Dining restaurants on Koh Samet but you will find plenty of good quality and cheap food. There are loads of local Thai restaurants serving cheap food and some good pub / restaurants serving great pub grub.
